Early Intervention Program

What Is It?

The Early Intervention Program in New York State helps babies and toddlers (from birth to age 3) who have developmental delays or health conditions that may cause delays. It is part of a federal law called IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and is run by the New York State Department of Health.

Why It Matters

Early help can make a big difference in a child’s growth and learning. Families and providers work together to create a plan that supports the child’s needs.

Who Can Get Services?

Any baby or toddler up to age 3 who has a delay in development, or a condition that may cause delays, may qualify. Parents, doctors, or other professionals can make a referral. A service coordinator will guide the family through evaluations and next steps.

What Services Are Offered?

Services depend on the child’s needs and may include: Speech therapy, occupational therapy (skills for daily life), physical therapy (movement and strength),special education instruction, nursing, hearing, vision, mental health support, family training and parent support.

Cullman Child Development Center and Early Intervention

The Cullman Child Development Center is beginning the process of becoming an official Early Intervention (EI) agency. This will not be a major change in how we already do business, but it will strengthen the support we can offer families. We already work closely with therapists who provide important services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. By becoming an EI site, we can make these services easier to access for families in our community, while continuing our mission of supporting the growth and development of every child. This step will allow us to provide essential services under one roof, making it simpler and more effective for children and families to get the help they need early in life.
